Finally, the aquatic therapy program is overseen by Kim Shaffer, PTA Lisa Hugus, PTA Sarah Kessler, PTA and Barry Foust, PTA.
West Park Rehab has expanded its services to include more wellness based programs. Firstly, the practice launched a highly successful 10-week weight loss program in 2011 called "Thin-n-Win". The program was offered to a number of local businesses. The program included a customized DVD exercise program made by West Park Rehab's personal trainers: Kyle Sweeney and Jessica Jack. In addition, the trainers made weekly visits to companies that participated for weigh-in and consultation. Finally, the program included a meal plan that listed items at local grocery stores and restaurants. The fee to enter was $50 and the participant who lost the highest percent of body weight won $1000. The program is scheduled to launch again in early 2012.
Next, West Park Rehab added a wellness product line. Products included items that were not locally available however were routinely recommended as an adjunct to a patients therapy program. The program is overseen by Jessica Jack who holds a Bachelor's in Exercise Science from Slippery Rock University. Products include lumbar supports, cervical pillows, orthotics, massage canes, Biofreeze, cold compression cuffs and a very popular line of orthotic sandals. The program expanded from in house sales to Internet via the clinics website and also a 3 month run during the holidays at the Liberty Galleria.
Finally, West Park Rehab produced and launched a wellness-based magazine called "Swellness". The 28-page color magazine included articles that ranged from personal training, concussions, hand therapy, wellness, balance, aquatics and treatment of the spine. The magazine was distributed to local waiting rooms to include physicians, dentists, auto dealers, banks and the Chamber of Commerce. The magazine is scheduled to be released quarterly with the next edition due out in March. The publication is free and the fall magazine is now available on the web site: www.westparkrehab.com.
Reflecting on 2011, St. Clair states "I have been very fortunate to attract such dynamic, caring, professional staff to West Park Rehab. This really is a team effort now. My folks give so much of themselves to help our patients and I appreciate their dedication. I often remind them that our work is vitally important. It is a privilege to be able to help hurt people get better. And although our work may not fall in the category of life or death, our work does impact quality of life. I am very proud of the therapists at West Park Rehab and all of the staff. We have remained sensitive to the fact that the economy has put many folks in a difficult situation with regards to the out-of-pocket cost associated with treatment. Although we cannot change these fees, we can make certain that a person is getting the absolute most effective treatment each and every session. So instead of cutting services, we have improved its value. We plan to be here for a very long time and I hope to continue to improve the practice and expand our services to better meet the needs of our community."
